The Alef Bet Montessori of Bethesda, MD, formerly known as Aish Montessori,
Jewish Early Childhood Center, is an accredited school by the
Department of Education and the Office of Childcare of the State of
Maryland and the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI).
Our
school opened on Sept. 5, 2005, with 8 students and grew by the end of
that academic year to 13 students. The following year our school
expanded into two classes totaling 29 students (almost tripling in one
year). The academic year 2007-2008, our third year, we had two main
programs: the Primary Program educates 22 children from ages 2½-6, and the Toddler Program for ages 18 months to 3 years old. In the year 2008-2009 we added a second Primary class ages 2½-6, and our school continues to grow and expand.
It is rare to find a school or preschool that is both Montessori Jewish in Rockville / Bethesda, MD. The variety of nursery and childcare in Jewish Rockville is vast. Our
school offers a traditional Montessori environment within an atmosphere
of Jewish learning and experience. We are located at the Aish DC/MD/VA
Center for Jewish Learning, and are able to use the facility for the
school's needs. Our premises include an outdoor playground and an
indoor playroom, a Toddler classroom, two Primary classrooms, and a
Hebrew classroom.
We
are also part of a Jewish Montessori movement in North America. Jewish
Montessori schools have been in existence in North America for several
years. The largest schools are located in New Jersey and Toronto. The
Jewish Montessori community meets once a year in New Jersey to exchange
ideas and support each other. The Jewish Montessori Schools in the
Washington Metro area are expanding. Alef Bet Montessori serves the
Potomac, Rockville and Bethesda area. Kemp Mill Montessori in Sliver
Spring serves the Silver Spring and Wheaton area.
