How to Keep Flu Virus Away
This week one case of Swine Flu was reported in our school. Another family reported that the pediatrician's office treats regular flu and H1N1 flu virus (aka Swine Flu) in the same manner. The family says that it is not the worst disease, and it is manageable, though it takes some time till the fever is gone (between 5 to 7 days).
Lets all reinforce good health habits that could slow or stop spreads of a virus:
- Wash your hands and your child hands frequently with soap;
- We want to make sure that if children are not feeling well, they are staying at home; Avoid close contact with people who are sick; Stay home when you are sick;
- We ask you to be proactive and letting us know if your child is not coming to school (leave a message on ext. 20);
- We will follow all guidelines of the Health Department, CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention) and MCPS;
- We will continue to keep the level of cleanliness in the school facility that helps keep us all safe;
- We continue to enforce policy of not sharing food or drink;
- Develop a family emergency plan in case one of the family members is sick:
- CDC recommends that you stay home until at least 24 hours after you are free of fever (100° F [37.8°C]), or signs of a fever without the use of fever-reducing medications.
- Keep your sick child at home and avoid sending other children to school to avoid epidemic;
- Store appropriate medication and vitamins, food and other essential supplies;
- Cover your mouth and nose when sneezing; Teach your child to sneeze and cough at the elbow;
- Practice other good health habits: get plenty of sleep, be physically active, drink plenty of fluids, eat nutritious food, and manage your stress;
- Call 1-800CDC-INFO for more information. CDC website is on http://www.cdc.gov. or click here.

How to Keep Flu Virus Away
Last year outbreak of the H1N1 flu virus (aka Swine Flu) kept us all alert to the cleanliness of our classrooms and habits of our children. Along with that, lets all reinforce good health habits that could slow or stop spreads of a virus:
1. Wash your hands and your child hands frequently with soap;
2. We want to make sure that if children are not feeling well, they are staying at home; Avoid close contact with people who are sick; Stay home when you are sick;
3. We ask you to be proactive and letting us know if your child is not coming to school (leave a message on ext. 20);
4. We will follow all guidelines of the Health Department, CDC and MCPS;
5. We will continue to keep the level of cleanliness in the school facility that helps keep us all safe;
6. We continue to enforce policy of not sharing food or drink;
7. Develop a family emergency plan- in case one of the family members is sick, store appropriate medication and vitamins, food and other essential supplies;
8. Cover your mouth and nose when sneezing; Teach your child to sneeze and cough at the elbow;
9. Practice other good health habits: get plenty of sleep, be physically active, drink plenty of fluids, eat nutritious food, and manage your stress;
10. Call 1-800CDC-INFO for more information. CDC website is on www.dcd.gov/swineflu/
Did you know....“[M]ost innovative entrepreneurs were very lucky to have been raised in an atmosphere where inquisitiveness was encouraged. We were stuck by the stories they told about being sustained by people who cared about experimentation and exploration. Sometimes these people were relatives, but sometimes they were neighbors, teachers or other influential adults. A number of the innovative entrepreneurs also went to Montessori schools, where they learned to follow their curiosity. To paraphrase the famous Apple ad campaign, innovators not only learned early on to think different, they act different (and even talk different).” Harvard Business Review Blog Click here for full article.
Other Montessori educated innovators:
* Sergey Brin + Larry Page (referred explicitly to Montessori in their Barbara Walters interview) * Jeff Bezos, Founder of Amazon.com * Will Wright, Inventor of Sims * Katherine Graham, Owner-Editor of the Washington Post * Julia Child, First TV Chef
